Silencing Oriana
What does Italy do when an ailing and dying world-famous journalist exposes radical Islam for what it is? Simple, it brings her to trial. Head-in-the-sand Italians never liked Oriana, but while I have never heard of journalists being tried for having called Israel a terrorist country, Oriana seems to have incurred the wrath of the Big People for her free thoughts on Islam. (via Backspin)So, what did Oriana write that was Oh So Terrible? Why is our heroine being sent to bed without supper? This blog cites 18 points from Oriana's writing that may have triggered the trial/farce/fascist get-together.
Among them:
2) while occupying Constantinople in 1453, the Turks led by Mohammed II “decapitated even newborns. And extinguished candles with their little heads.”
3) “In a woman the Koran sees above all a womb to give birth.”
4) “In the dream that the sons of Allah have been nurturing for years, the dream of blowing up Giotto’s Tower or the Tower of Pisa or the cupola of St. Peter’s or the Eiffel Tower or Westminster Abbey or the cathedral of Cologne and so on . . .”
Now, I pause at Point 5, because this is the only passage that disturbed me in her book:
5) “…halal butchery is barbarous” just as “shechita butchery is barbarous. That is, the Jewish version which is carried out in the same way and consists of slitting the animals’ throats without dazing them
Shchita is known to be quick and painless, and it has been proven in recent years by numerous researches. Commenters on Dagger In Hand's blog explained the topic quite well, also raising questions: Did Oriana write that out of ignorance? Typical Italian grandmotherly talk? And if so, did she write about Muslim practices out of ignorance as well? No, say some commenters, we are familiar with Islam and her points are valid. They are poisoned.
But read it all and decide for yourself.
